Shawlands Parklets

Shawlands’ Parklets

Design and production of bespoke colourful parklet structures for a busy High Street in Glasgow's Southside

New Practice delivered a series of three bespoke designed parklets for Shawlands Business Improvement District ‘MyShawlands’ to support their plans to green the High Street, creating a number of cost effective, robust, and multi-functional green interventions to improve key public spaces along the road.

To bring our vibrant designs to life, we collaborated with Shawlands’ resident Tenement Design for the carpentry elements, Alex Garthwaite and Highland Galvanizers for the metalwork, and some enthusiastic green fingered locals for the planting.

The project was funded by the Animating Spaces grant, which supported community-led proposals for temporary interventions that animate streets to meet the needs for social distancing, increased local activity and economic stimulus during the Covid-19 pandemic.
